The 2014 ISCRAM Summer School is designed to facilitate continuous development of the candidates’ skills throughout their doctoral program or professional career. For this reason, we invite Ph.D. candidates who are at any stage of their dissertation as well as early to mid career practitioners.

Applications are invited by March 31st, 2014 and must be sent via email to the Program Directors of the Summer School: summerschool@disasterlab.org.

Requirements
All participants of the Summer School will be selected according to their expertise in the domains of decision support, information management and serious gaming for disaster and crisis management. In this manner, we ensure that the ISCRAM Summer School is a valuable experience for all participants.

PhD students should have completed course work and developed a dissertation proposal. Ideally, they should have completed one year of dissertation work with at least one year remaining (at the time of the summer school) before completion.

Practitioners should have at least one year work experience in humanitarian response and should possess a university degree. Applications based on significant professional experience will be considered.

All participants are expected to attend the entire duration of the Summer School. More details about why you should participate and what you can learn can be found on our Program Page.

Costs and Accommodation

The cost of participation for the 2014 ISCRAM Summer School is 800 EURO (900 EURO after the registration deadline) for the full program. The registration fee will cover all lunches, dinners and coffee breaks and materials provided for the lectures and cases. Wireless Internet access will be provided on campus for the duration of the summer school for free.

Please note that travel expenses are not covered by the registration fee, and neither are accommodation costs. Special rates will be negotiated with the local hotels and communicated as soon as possible, yet rooms need to be booked by the participants directly. Indicative rates per night last year: a standard single room was about 85 Euro; a double room 110 Euro, breakfast included.

It is also possible for interested parties (practitioners, academics, journalists,...) to register as observers to the final game, to be played on August 19 2014. This single day registration fee is 300 euro (or 350 after the registration deadline), and includes costs of venue and catering for the day of the game, access to the lectures and tutorials of this very day, and the opportunity to observe the game and discuss the outline with the DRL Summer School team.
